# Choosing Recipients

Open the "Who gets this email" drawer from the composer to see and set your audience. By default, your email goes to **everyone who shared an email address with you**. You do not have to do anything to reach your whole email audience.

## Narrowing it down

If you want to reach a slice of your audience instead of all of it, add filters. These are the same filters you use on the [Audience page](/your-audience/filters-and-the-map.md), so you can target by things like tags, location, or who voted in a poll. As you add filters, the recipient count at the top updates live, so you always know how many fans will get this email.

## Who gets left out automatically

Some addresses are never sent to, and you do not have to manage this yourself. The drawer leaves out:

* **Unsubscribed** fans, who asked to stop getting your emails.
* **Bounced** addresses that could not receive mail.
* **Duplicate** addresses, so no one gets the same email twice.

The drawer shows you the count for each of these so you can see exactly what was excluded.

This audience is built from email only. A fan who gave you a phone number but no email will not be on an email send, and that is expected.
{% endhint %}

## The list locks in at send time

Your recipient list is not fixed the moment you set it up. It is finalized when the email actually sends. That means any fan who joins your audience before the send goes out is included automatically. If you schedule an email for next week, the fans you gain between now and then still get it.

## Next

Once your audience is set, send a test or schedule the real thing.
