# Forever Presave Links

A Forever Presave link is the one to reach for before a release. A fan taps it, picks Spotify or Apple Music, and saves your upcoming song. The "forever" part is the good bit: they also save every release you put out after this one, automatically, without doing anything again. On Spotify, presaving also follows your artist profile, so your next drop lands in their release radar.

Under the save is the thing that matters even more: the contact details you collect. A save gets your song into a fan's library. An email address or phone number lets you tell that same fan the song is out, which is what actually drives first-day streams. Treat the presave and the contact info as equally important, because together they are what a release day runs on.

## What a fan goes through

1. They open your presave link and see your cover art, headline, and (if you set one) a countdown to release day.
2. They pick a service: **Spotify**, **Apple Music**, or **Other Services** if you turned that on.
3. They sign in to that service to authorize the save.
4. They share the details you asked for (email, phone, name, and so on).
5. They land on a thank you, or a page you chose to redirect them to.

Spotify saves are permanent. Apple Music is more limited, and there is a short version of that below with a link to the full story.

## Setting one up

Create a new link and pick **Forever Presave**. The main fields on the first page:

* **Main Photo**: your cover art. It also sets the page background color.
* **Release Date Countdown**: optional. Add a date and a countdown shows across the top of the page. This is just for the countdown display and is separate from the real release date you enter further down.
* **Link Name**: an internal name only you see in your dashboard.
* **Headline** and **Message**: what the fan reads on the page.
* **Other Services**: a toggle covered just below.
* **Release Information**: covered below. This is what makes the saves actually happen.

You also get a Data Collection tab to choose which details fans share. See [Collecting Fan Data](/links/collecting-fan-data.md) for how that works across every link type.

### The Other Services toggle

Turn **Other Services** on to add a button for fans who are not on Spotify or Apple Music. It lets them share their contact details with you, but it does not save anything to their library, because ForeverFan does not support presaves on other services. Think of it as a way to keep a fan who uses a different app in your audience, even though there is no save to make.

### Release Information: UPC and release date

This is the part that turns a nice looking page into a working presave. Under **Release Information**, answer whether you have your UPC and release date yet.

* **UPC**: a 12 to 14 digit code from your distributor that identifies your release. It is not the same as an ISRC. If it is wrong, the save cannot find your song, so double check it with your distributor.
* **Release Date**: the day the song comes out. You can set it up to 180 days ahead.

The UPC tells the system what to save, and the release date tells it which day to look for it. Without both, fans can still tap through and share their details, but no save gets executed on release day.

If you do not have the UPC and release date when you build the link, that is fine. Answer "No" for now, share the link to start collecting fans, and come back to add the release details later.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Your UPC and release date must be in at least 24 hours before release day, or the saves cannot run. Adding them a couple of days early is smarter, since that leaves room to fix a typo in the UPC.
{% endhint %}

### The release-day email

You can turn on an optional release-day email for a presave. When it is on, every fan who saves through the link gets a simple email on release day reminding them to go listen. It sends from your presave's automation area, and you can turn it off there any time. It is part of the automation features on a paid plan.

## Apple Music, briefly

Spotify presaves are permanent. Apple Music does not work the same way: Apple only allows a save-everything window of 6 to 12 months, and its sign-in popup gets blocked on some browsers. ForeverFan always attempts the Apple save, and when the popup is blocked it still keeps the fan's contact details so the fan stays reachable. Because of the window, refresh your Apple presave campaigns every 6 to 12 months.

The full explanation, including why this happens and how to work around the popup, is here: [The Apple Music presave problem](/help/apple-music-presaves.md).

## A note on changing the link's URL

You can edit a presave link's URL from its detail page. If you do, every copy of the old URL you already shared stops working right away. Your stats stay with the link, but posters, bios, and old posts pointing at the old address break. If a link is already out in the world, leave its URL alone.
