# Sequences

A sequence is the path a fan walks after they join you. You set it up once, and from then on every new fan who joins gets it automatically. No more remembering to send a welcome note to each person who signs up. You build the path, and ForeverFan walks each fan down it for you.

Think of a sequence as a series of emails spaced out over time. A fan joins, and a couple of hours later they get your first email. A few days after that, the next one. You decide what the emails say and how far apart they land, and it runs on its own from there.

Sequences are part of a paid plan.

## What starts a sequence

Every sequence has a trigger, which is the thing a fan does that starts them down the path. You pick one of these:

* **A fan joins your fanbase**: the fan gets the sequence the moment they join you through any of your links. This is how you build a welcome sequence.
* **A fan gets a tag**: the fan starts the sequence when a certain tag is added to them. Handy for grouping fans and treating a group a certain way.
* **A fan clicks a link**: the fan starts the sequence when they click one of your links.

You set the trigger when you create the sequence, and you can change it later.

## The sequences list

All your sequences live on the Sequences page, each shown as a card. A card tells you what the sequence does at a glance:

* Its name and what triggers it, plus how many steps it has.
* **Active** or **Paused**: whether it is currently running for new fans.
* How many fans have **started** it and how many have **finished** it.
