# Welcome Sequence

A welcome sequence is the one to build first. It greets every new fan automatically, right when their interest in you is highest. You set it up once, and from then on anyone who joins your fanbase gets a warm hello without you lifting a finger.

This page walks through building one. If you have not read [Building a Sequence](/sequences/building-a-sequence.md) yet, that covers the editor in full. Here we put it to work.

## Set the trigger

Create a new sequence, name it something like "Welcome," and set its trigger to **A fan joins your fanbase**. That means every new fan, no matter which link they came in through, starts down this path the moment they join.

## A three-email example

You do not need anything fancy. Three emails, spaced out over a couple of weeks, does the job. Here is a shape that works:

**Email one, right away: say thanks and give them something.** The moment a fan joins, send a genuine thank-you and hand them something to enjoy. Your best song, or an unreleased track they cannot get anywhere else. First impressions stick, so lead with the music.

Set the wait before this email to zero days and zero hours so it sends right away.

**Email two, a couple of days later: tell your story.** Wait a day or two, then send an email about who you are. Where you are from, what you are working on, why you make the music you make. This is what turns a listener into a fan.

**Email three, about a week later: point them everywhere else.** A week or so after that, send them to the rest of your world: your Instagram, your streaming profiles, wherever else you want them following you. By now they know you, so they are far more likely to hit follow.

That is a complete welcome sequence: an email right away, a wait of a couple of days, a second email, a wait of about a week, and a third. Adjust the waits and the words to fit you.

## Bringing in fans you already have

When you import fans from a CSV, you can add the new fans straight into your active welcome sequence as part of the import. During the upload, there is a step that offers exactly that. Turn it on and every fan from that file gets your welcome path, the same as if they had just joined through a link.

Once your welcome sequence is active, you are done. Every new fan gets greeted, every time, whether they found you today or a month from now.
